*insert rant about how I can’t believe we’re already halfway through the year, where did June go, struggle to even remember it’s 2016 blah blah blah* It’s time. Now that I’m finally going ahead with my dream of writing a beauty blog, it’s almost as if I’m desperately waiting for the end of every month for a chance to write a monthly favourites. There’s something about picking out what you liked this month that’s just so enjoyable, and even more so to write about it. This month was harder than I expected, probably to do with the fact that I’ve been travelling and transitioning to a new location so I haven’t really explored new beauty products -so the bits and pieces I came up with are mostly rediscovered oldies but goodies.
Let’s start with lips. I bought Bite’s Agave Lip Mask back in December after all my favourite beauty gurus raved about it, but I lost track of it for a few months then rediscovered it when I was moving. I haven’t put it down ever since. It has a thick sticky consistency, but what I love about it is that I can apply it to the most cracked/damaged state of lips and the second it dries off my lips are always left soft and supple- without fail, every time. Definitely a favourite and a savior this month.
The Body Shop Poppy Lip & Cheek Stain is definitely also a product I purchased about a year ago. I was intrigued by the fact that it was black and promised to adapt and turn into a different shade on everyone’s lips, and when I tried it I fell in love with the color it gave my lips -it turned into a mauve pink with dark purple undertones which I loved! I went back to using this around the end of May and have definitely used it everyday since. It’s the perfect easy lip product to just top up with throughout the day and know that your lips will just look naturally stained. It definitely gives a your lips but better look, it just adapts to your lips changing their color rather than looking like a layer of product on your lips.
The Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes are the only makeup wipes I’ll ever use. They’re the only ones that I trust to genuinely remove my makeup. Needless to say- I still won’t use them alone, it’s vital to cleanse after, a wipe is never going to fully remove everything. But Neutrogena’s definitely remove all of my eye makeup and remove the most skin makeup a wipe ever has for me. So recently I decided to try some different wipes by the brand, so I went for the Night Calming ones. They definitely worked as well as the classic does, with the addition of a soothing sensation. I definitely felt it was more calming and sensitive rather than usual wipes that can feel a bit chemical and tingle.
Next is the Super Facialist By Una Brennan’s Rose Calming Creamy Cleanser, this was actually a recent purchase that I only bought a couple of weeks ago. But it has done wonders for my skin. As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been struggling with breakouts lately and almost anything I put on my skin feels harsh, this has been the only cleanser that has worked for me. If anything it’s soothing on my breakouts and my skin feels calmer after I’ve used it, and the redness seems to be toned down after use. So this cleanser is definitely a God send for my skin right now.
On the topic of breakout-prone skin, another oldie but goodie has come back in rotation this month. Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty is definitely an infamous breakout mask, and I forgot just how good it is until I rediscovered it recently. I’ve been using it religiously, 3 times a week; and I never actually use masks 3 times a week so that’s how I know I’m addicted to this stuff! It’s also soothing but what I close about it most is the cooling sensation of the mint which feels amazing on my sore breakout areas. I’ve also been loving the fact that it works as an exfoliant too, removing it through exfoliating it into my skin has definitely helped improved the texture of my skin.
Finally, I’ve been addicted to Skyn’s Hydra-Cool Firming Eye Gels. I can’t really pin point what it is about these that keeps me coming back for more but I think it’s mostly the sensation. There’s nothing like whipping one of these out of the fridge in the morning and placing them under your eyes, it’s cooling as well as de-puffing. I definitely do think there is a plumping/firming effect, my undereyes feel softer and plump after using. But trust me, the cooling sensation is enough to have you hooked!
