It’s hard to review products sometimes. Sometimes it’s almost impossible to do so without sounding like a completely heart-eyed fan girl; but realistically, it’s those products that are worth writing about. Over the past few months I’ve been enjoying being a part of Influenster, it’s been nice to be a part of a community where we all share beauty tips and reviews and answer each others questions, entering competitions has been fun too, so I was more than satisfied with where I was; little did I know, it could get a lot better. I received one of the most exciting emails ever when Influenster reached out to me to receive a free Maybelline product to test out and talk about; and so I crossed it off my wish list and eagerly awaited my package.
I had already tried the Better Skin range’s concealer and foundation and was extremely impressed. I’d heard that the concealer was a dupe for the infamous Naked concealer (which as you all know, I hate) and I can definitely confirm that this little tube is one of the highest quality formulas in the drugstore- and the foundation only furthered that claim. What sold me most on this range is the promise of better skin; it claims to improve your skin overtime and is dermatologically tested. Another skin benefit is the use of salicylic acid in the range which is like music to my ears. My breakout prone skin lives for that salicylic so I was sold.
When Maybelline announced the addition of a powder to the range I knew I would buy it, but I wasn’t too fussed about it. I know the line was good and so this was bound to be good too; boy oh boy was I wrong! Never in a million years would I have guessed things could get any better. This compact powder promises light coverage as well as giving you just-applied looking makeup throughout the entire day. Big claims, I know. But with this bad boy, Maybelline was seriously not about that false advertising life. This baby is one of those rare powders where the second you apply it you can see every flaw blur away and every pore disappear; ok who am I kidding, I don’t know about you guys but I don’t actually have any powders that do that!
This definitely packs a punch in terms of coverage, but I personally prefer using it on top of foundation. It applies like a dream, it’s definitely smooth and silky and I find the best way to use is to pat it on with the sponge given rather than drag or use a brush. One tip I’d give is definitely pay attention to the shade you buy, usually with powders I’m not too picky with the shade match because it blends into my skin- but because of the amazing coverage and effect of this powder, if you get a shade too dark or light for you it will definitely show. Aside from that, the finish this powder gives is actually flawless- it’s almost a filter in a compact! Blurs out any pores I have (which are a lot) as well as evening out my skin tone. What’s most impressive about this aside from the finish is the longevity, the promise of fresh-looking makeup all day is realer than real. This stuff is guaranteed to stick around all day, and even if it doesn’t for you if you have especially oily skin -then blotting with it throughout the day is simply another job this powder OWNS! It’s the ideal powder to pack in your handbag for touchups throughout the day, ensuring that freshened up and flawless look throughout the day – I almost want to touch up with it even when I don’t need to!
So overall, I’m super super thankful to Influenster for choosing to send me this product -especially since it was already on my wishlist so this just saved me some time and bucks haha. This powder has some serious holy grail potential and I can definitely see myself hitting pan (fyi I never hit pan, ever.) Let me know what you think if you’ve tried it out or if I’ve successfully convinced you to buy it haha!
