Birchbox October Unboxing

The battle ensues, as do my dramatics. Last month we were all taken by surprise when Birchbox finally rightfully earned its spot on top! Now, usually it’s pretty obvious when a box first comes whether it’s going to have a fighting chance or not- but this month is different. While overall the products seem quite interesting, when I came to break it down I felt it could be slightly weak. It’s definitely one of those things where it could go either way. Some of these products are very promising, and there’s a chance that if Ipsy is having a mediocre month, Birchbox could push through and earn a winning streak!

Amika Nourishing Mask- Birchbox introduced this brand to me last month with a dry shampoo- which I have been testing out. While I absolutely loved the scent and it felt that it worked instantly, it simply didn’t impress me enough to the point where I would reach for it above my trusty Dove. However, that’s not to judge the brand, dry shampoos are tricky! But like I always say on here, when it comes to hair care the only thing that excites me is hair masks. They’re the only products that I genuinely see a visible difference with and then I’ll usually dabble more in a brand. So I’m glad this month came with a hair mask so I can truly test out Amika and make a decision about it.

Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara- I’m always down to test out a new mascara. Now I’ve hardly heard of this brand, I know some people love it and some hate it but I’ve never really been tempted to test it out. If the packaging is anything to go by I’m seriously not impressed; it looks and feels like mascaras I used to get in young teen magazines way way back- not good. The brush looks like your typical volumizing bristles, so we’ll see; maybe it will surprisingly blow my mind!

PARLOR By Jeff Chastain Moisturizing & repairing Shampoo and bonus Conditioner- Now that we’ve covered the fact that shampoos and conditioners don’t really impress me- I think we can understand how I feel about this. I will give it the fact that I definitely prefer the word repairing when it comes to my shampoos and conditioners so that’s good haha.

Prescriptives Virtual Skin Foundation- I’m actually surprisingly very excited for this one. I’ve never heard anything about the brand or the product- but the description is seriously impressive. It refers to it as “combining the worlds of makeup and skincare,” promising healing and anti-aging benefits while also evening out your skintone. When swatching this was actually surprisingly pigmented and it was the perfect shade so I’m definitely excited to try it- I’m all about the natural looking bases lately!

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask- This one seriously brings it home. Now, I did choose this in the selection stage- but I’m still super excited. I chose it because we all know how insanely expensive Tata Harper is, but we also know how insanely raved about it is! I’ve wanted to try either the cleanser or this mask from the range for ages and ages, so I couldn’t believe I finally had the opportunity to do so. I will say it’s a very tiny portion of it, but I think I could maybe try to get two uses out of it which should be more than enough to convince me to carve out the cash for it- I’m pretty easy when it comes to high-end skincare.

So that’s it for this month- do you see how hard it is to tell? How about you guys help me decide this time? What do you think, does this box pack enough punch to stand a chance, or would you already declare it a loser?

  1. The only thing that I received the same as you, are the shampoo and conditioner. That foundation looks promising though.

  2. Love this! I used to be subscribed to birchbox but unsubscribed and opted for sephora instead because every month ipsy was better but this box is making me reconsider! 🙊

I’ve had two Birchboxes and I was really disappointed with them. The surprise element is pretty nice but nothing is more disappointing than getting poor products.
