Poolside Essentials…

img_0147Whether you’re lucky enough to live somewhere that’s sunny this time of year, or on a getaway like myself; this post is for you. While not stereo-typically an article to be found deep into January- I’ve been particularly inspired by my surroundings. You’ll notice, I’ve been MIA for the past couple. The truth is, I failed to take time difference and the long flight into consideration. This won’t set back my bloguary plans- I’m simply going to make up for lost blog posts in the next couple of days. It’s just hard to have a pool and sunshine on command without taking full advantage for at least one work-free day. Getting away to Bali in the winter is possibly one of the best ideas we’ve ever had, and along with the harsh sun and excessive pool-time comes a need to be prepared with some must-have essentials.

Protect Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself
Let’s start with the obvious contenders. Tanning oil. We all opt for one to get that gorgeous seamless summer bronze. After all, did you even have a vacay without the tan lines to prove it? I went for Malibu’s Fast Tanning Oil, and while this sounded amazing- I’m a bit concerned. I suffered some serious sunburns after my first day and while I think it was due to overexposure to sun and a lack of reapplying SPF- a part of me worries this tanning oil caused it. So much so that I stopped using it. I thought I’d pop it in here to give you all a warning as well as asking what tanning oils you’d recommend!
When intending to spend an entire day lounging in or by the pool- you’re setting your skin up for destruction. So it’s imperative to take the necessary steps to prevent as much damage as you can. We’ve all heard it time and time again, but this tip will never get old. SPF is key!! You need it, and you need it about 50 times a day. Too often do we forget to reapply and trust that a couple of times is safe enough. The pool along with our sweat is making sure that those two times are nowhere near enough. After my first day here in Bali, I suffered some serious sunburns and so I started to opt for a stronger sunscreen and this one has worked wonders. I’ve never heard of the brand Corine De Farme before but this spray on SPF 50 with Calendula has been seriously soothing and protective. It is fragrance free and formulated for sensitive skin which makes it perfect for my sunburnt skin.
The SPF saga continues. While I think it’s okay to apply the aforementioned to your face, I personally prefer to stick to SPFs that are especially formulated for my face. This vacay I decided to steal about a quart of my sisters Alpha-H Daily Essential Moisturizer SPF 50. While my failure to reapply the first day left me with a slightly red nose- it completely protected my entire face with just one application! This stuff works miracles, and it doesn’t hurt that it has long term benefits and keeps my skin super soft all day long.
Lastly but not least, we’ve all been victims of forgetting this seriously helpful step- SPF for your lips! I’ve never taken this tip seriously, but after sticking to it religiously this time I’ve seen such a difference. This keeps my lips smooth all day and prevents any extra dryness or chapping that I usually experience with humid weather. Doesn’t hurt to feel protected either!
Some Necessary Extra-ness
At a beautiful location such as Bali, one can often be inspired to be a little extra. Such an occasion calls for the most elaborate expensive body oils to help you fake that glow! The NARS Monoi Body Glow has been absolutely beautiful to moisturize with daily. It gives your skin the most gorgeous fake looking glow. But what I really love about it is how soothing it feels. The refined coconut extract and the Monoi De Tahiti oil leaves your skin feeling soothed and gives serious relief.
Poolside Glam is a must to really feel the vacay vibes. So I thought I’d throw a few of my favourite extra staples to keep me as basic as possible. No shame. Do I even have to list the oversized floppy hat? I mean this one is just an absolute must. This single step can take you from hobo chic to some serious pool glamness- and the protection it gives your face is a serious bonus! Now, I’m not about half-assing things. If you’re gonna go floppy, you know you have to go for the sunglasses. While oversized is the best, this time I went for this edgy bright blue lenses and I’ve been absolutely loving them. They’ve given my eyes a lot of protection and they just look so damn cute!
Just when you thought I couldn’t get any extra, i called room service to request a whole coconut. Yes, it had to happen. I’m all about treating yourself and setting the atmosphere as best you can; and apparently, the atmosphere needed some OTT coconut action. Zero regrets. The water inside was super refreshing and I felt so chic sipping on it all day!
Stay Hydrated!
I can’t go on enough about how important it is for you to stay hydrated in any and all ways during pooltime. That much exposure to the sun as well as all that swimming is guaranteed to result in some serious dryness. The coconut water worked perfectly, just one of these kept me thirst-free all day. Doesn’t hurt that I love the flavor of coconut water. But I think it’s also important to hydrate your skin. With all that sweat, most people avoid adding more moisture but all that sweat is actually stripping us of moisture. That’s why I always keep a good hydrating mist like Caudalie’s Grape Water around to keep spritzing throughout the day for some moisture- it’s also seriously refreshing and cooling!
P.s. I apologize again for being AWOL. We all know I refuse to fail at Bloguary, so I promise there will be 31 blog posts this month. I’m just planning to group some of them together 🙂

i can’t recommend a tanning oil because overexposure to hot sun gives me rashes but I heard a lot of good things about vichy’s in shower after sun.. Enjoy your holiday without aby more sunburns😋
