The One Where Colab Dry Shampoo Failed Me…

I’m a huge dry shampoo hoarder. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had greasy hair. When I say greasy, I mean a wash can only last me a day before getting greasy. However, despite that, I do refuse to wash my hair daily. I’ve witnessed too many horror stories of friends losing a lot of hair by washing daily and I just don’t like to strip my hair. I like to let one wash last at least 3 days before washing again. An ideal week has two washes only. In order to help me out, I’m constantly working through dry shampoos. The system has been working, it has never failed me- until the other day…

Colab is one of the most infamous dry shampoos out there (Aside from Batiste, of course). The dry shampoo range brought to us by beauty blogger Ruth Crilly has been raved about for years now. Everyone has sworn by them. I’ve seen countless videos where YouTubers claim to be on their 5th no wash day thanks to this dry shampoo. It’s honestly a miracle that it has taken me this long to try it out- but when I saw this beautiful packaging I finally cracked and decided it was time. I washed my hair and waited… Finally, it was time. I brushed through my hair and got to spraying…

Nothing. I got absolutely nothing. I sprayed and sprayed and massaged and massaged. I brushed through it. I tried stepping away for a few minutes and seeing if it needed more time to work. NOTHING. My hair was just as greasy, with the addition of feeling a little gritty. I think Ruth must have put all her focus into making this an “amazing oil absorption without white residue” formula that it just focused on zero residues without giving me results.

I do not understand; why does this keep happening to me? How can so many people out there swear by this and I get zero results?  I’m really not even that tricky with dry shampoos. I can work with the heavy kind that leaves my hair grey for a while. I can deal with the volumizing ones that can feel super heavy and gritty. I’m willing to accept a lot of things so long as I’m getting actual results in terms of oil absorption. But this did nothing. If anything, I think my hair felt greasier after it. It left my hair looking dreadlock-ish with little bunches gathering together, which only increased the appearance of greasiness.

This must have been the worst experience I’ve had with a hair care product. I still cannot believe it did absolutely nothing. I’m hoping I got a bad batch because otherwise I officially have zero trust for any of the YouTubers that raved about this!

  1. I am obviously late to the party…with as much as I live by dry shampoo, I’m shocked that I have never heard of this brand. I’m willing to try ANY dry shampoo since I use it so much and I always keep a couple of batiste bottles on hand at all times. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you 😦 xoxo

What a letdown! I hate when this happens. If you’re looking for another great Dry Shampoo, I use Verb’s powder formula. I get it at Sephora. It’s not the best for volume, but it sucks up all the oil in my hair and I have really oily hair xx.

Hmm that sounds good. I’m not usually looking for volume so that sounds great! I’ll look into it, right now I just use the Batiste Brown Hair one and the Dove one and they are miracle workers. Thank you for reading x

  5. Ha! Sometimes I also wonder if I’m the weirdo in the room! Like why does this product work for so many people but I’m just meh about it?! I guess that’s why beauty and skincare is so subjective

I’ve got the same problem too! I got their invisible formula at first, and their Oriental theme one and they were okay to begin with, but I realised it got weaker as I used it more? Maybe I needed to shake the bottle more, I don’t know. But in the end, it also failed me too. Even when there was some ‘result’ it would only last about an hour or two which is pointless.

I tried their New York one a few months ago, it was okay. Smells really nice but yeah, still looking for the one when it comes to dry shampoo.

p.s. I have also had greasy hair for as long as I can remember. I wash my hair every other day.
