It’s a step you rarely ever hear about, actually, it’s a step that a rare few use. If you’re an avid makeup lover and beauty influencer watcher like myself, you’ll find yourself very familiar with every single makeup fad or product. Well here’s one that deserves a lot more exposure than it gets; mascara primers. She’s a real underdog that rarely gets the credit she deserves or often is rarely even put to work. I’ll admit, a couple of years ago I deemed it an unnecessary and irrelevant step; well all it took was one product to change that.
Now, this wasn’t my first time in the rodeo; I’d tried my fair share of bright white mascara primers. From Maybelline to Dior’s finest, but nothing wowed me. Until I stumbled across Benefit’s They’re Real Tinted Primer. I’ll admit, at first I bought it because I thought it could work as a great mascara for no-makeup makeup days. Well, fast forward a couple of years and I think it’s safe to say I have never ever worn mascara without it.
I’m not going to lie to you and say this gives you falsies-like lashes, but it really does play a huge role in elevating my lash game. I do love wearing it alone on more natural days because it really does wear like a mascara. It gives my natural length and volume without being obvious that I’m wearing anything. Zero clumps or spiderness with this one!
But how I really love to wear it is obviously as a Mascara Primer. This does not add an extra layer that’s going to make your mascara clumpier and messy I promise you. It works as a base that holds a curl (as much as a curl can be held with my lashes) and gives you an extra boost of length and volume. You can see it has almost the exact brush as the They’re Real mascara and it works like a lighter version of that mascara. Ever since I started using this I never ever had the issue of mascara running down or flaking off. I’d always hated my lashes but this Primer gave them the boost they needed for me to be okay with them and learn to love them
This really elevates every mascara I own, and I notice a huge difference in the wear when I don’t use this step. I just thought I’d open up your eyes a bit if you’ve always been sceptical of mascara primers like me; some actually do work!
Another great post! Is this the brown or the black? xx.

Have you noticed with this primer that it doesn’t fan out the lashes? That was my issue with it. It made my lashes stick together instead of separating them. So I couldn’t get into it. But I don’t know if it’s just my lashes being dumb or if others had the same problem haha.

Oh my god no that’s crazy honestly cause the best thing it does for me is separate my lashes haha. Maybe you just got a bad batch? I don’t know because my lashes are usually dumb but this works for them :p xx

Haha that’s awesome. I’m glad it works for you! I got a new tube from Generation Beauty so I’ll be able to try it out again and see if I like it better this time around!
