The best part of being back in the U.S. is hands down the beauty subscription services. I live for my beauty subscriptions. They really just push you to try new different products you’ve never heard of, or even give you deluxe samples of products you’ve been lusting after for ages. I’ve yet to sign back up to Birchbox and Ipsy, I’m a little torn if I’m honest. But Sephora’s Play is always a must. I mean, it has a waitlist for god’s sake! Luckily my sister kept up with the subscription, and now I’m finally back! Let’s see if this month’s bag lived up the months’ long suspense….
Spoiler alert: it didn’t.
Let’s start with the most exciting product to me. I know Devacurl is a brand that’s been loved for a while, but honestly I’ve just never been intrigued. I’ve said it a million times, I’ll say it again, I’m not big on hair products. But, as I also always say, the one hair product I do get excited for is hair masks. This Melt Into Moisture Matcha Butter Conditioning Mask promises to cater to curly or wavy hair and infuse it with moisture for frizz-free hair. That pretty much ticks all of my boxes, so I’m excited to test this out. I also appreciate that it’s a pretty big deluxe sample!
More hair products. Yay. Ok, ok, to be honest I will say that oils come second to hair masks for me. I do tend to try out a few different ones and I don’t go a wash without following up with an oil. I will also say that I was recently eyeing this one up. My hair is a frizz monster, and so anything that promises to help works for me. The Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Oil is an exciting product for me to try, but a foil packet? Really, Sephora?
Stay with me for one more relatively exciting product! It’s also most satisfying when you get luxury products in these subscriptions, you feel like you’re getting your money’s worth and that’s exciting. Now, I tend to stick to my holy grail face moisturizers and not experiment much, but recently I’ve been in the market to try out some new ones. This Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream sounds amazing. It’s just a simple anti-aging day cream that’s packed with antioxidants. Super eager to try this out, also again I love the size of the sample!
Dun dun dunnnnnn, the disappointment begins. I don’t do brows. I just don’t. I probably should, but I don’t. Now I suppose a brow gel is something I could easily factor into my routine, but I already have so many of these! The Benefit Gimme Brow samples must be overflowing everywhere, because I have gotten so many samples of this with many subscription boxes as well as just as an sample with purchases! Over it.
Look, I’m very picky with my lip products. I’m either going to go for a matte lip or a glossy one. Satin does not do it for me. This is why I don’t tend to like lipsticks, I just don’t like the finish they give my lips. It’s a strange personal pet peeve. Now, I’ve gotten the Ciate Liquid Velvets before, and while the shade range is really pretty the formula just doesn’t do it for me. I especially don’t like a red lip in any formula other than super super matte. That’s just me!
At this point Sephora is just playing me. Really? Look, this bag may have been full of wonderment for someone else. But personally, it’s like they noted everything I DON’T like and threw it in here. This Sephora Contour Eye Pencil just does nothing for me. I’m not big on pencil eyeliners, and I have my solid black options for tightlining. I’m not looking to add any more to my collection, it just doesn’t excite me at all.
Ok, ok, the bashing sesh is over. Sorry for such a negative post, trust me I’m as disappointed as you. This especially sucks considering how amazing the bags have been all these months that my sister has been getting them. Last month’s came a little late and I got to play with it and honestly it was amazing- let me know if you’d be interested in seeing an unbaging of that- I could even include reviews since I’ve had the chance to play with them!
