Fallen into Fall: Signed, Sealed, Duped…

With the end of Thanksgiving and the remnants of cyber monday fading away, I consider fall officially over. Sigh, it is pretty sad. Don’t get me wrong, I’m big on winter. I’m all about freezing cold weather and Christmas vibes, but I’ll always be sad to see fall go. With that in mind, it’s time for the final installment of my fall series. Yes, I know, it’s been a while. What can I say, I’ve been a little busy preparing for a certain blogging series that comes with December…Hint, hint….

Having had a few months to play around with countless fall lipsticks, I’ve trialed quite a few. As you may have seen from my top picks, Dose of Color’s Savage was definitely a big hit. It is a simple classical dark berry lip that I loved. Well, as we all know the Desi x Katy was unfortunately limited edition and it is gone for good… So, I made it my mission to find a dupe for this amazing colour and formula…. *drumroll* AND I DID.

It’s funny to think that the dupe for Desi and Katy’s liquid lipstick would come from within their circle… If you’re big on beauty gurus, you’ll be very familiar with iluvsarahii Karen has been a huge Instagram beauty guru before it even became a common thing. I’m personally a fan of hers, and I’m even more of a fan of Colourpop  so when she announced a collab with them I was reaaady.

The collection came with three lippies and two eyeshadow palettes, but today we’re going to talk about the Ultra Matte Lip in Mamacita. It is a bold and deep burgundy that is a perfect fall lip. I used to HATE Colourpop’s matte formula, it was insanely crusty and drying but something must have changed because this was anything but. It feels extremely lightweight on the lips and dries to a powder finish that makes it really comfortable to wear. Completely transfer proof and it is very easy to apply evenly, even more so if you use the Mamacita lip liner.

There’s no need to say much about Savage. I’ve raved on and on about the liquid lipstick for ages. I had never known Dose of Color’s formula was going to be so life changing. It is honestly just the most comfortable liquid lipstick to wear. SO let’s see how Mamacita fared against it…

Color: As you can see from the photos, the colors are essentially identical. If we’re really going to nit pick, I would say that maybe Mamacita is slightly warmer toned and more of a true burgundy, whereas Savage has a bit of purple to it.

Formula: I honestly thought this would be the dealbreaker for Mamacita, but somehow Colourpop have completely transformed their liquid lipstick formulas. Both of them feel insanely comfortable on the lips and dry down to a velvetymatte that feels smooth and non-crackly on the lips!

Longevity: This is seriously a tough call. I’ve tried both options out countless times, and every time I came back with a different result. The first time I tried Mamcita it just would not budge and was almost too long lasting, but there were also a couple f times where I noticed it really fading in the center of my lips. I had the exact same experience with Savage. So, it is very hard to tell. But, even on their worst days they both still lasted longer than most liquid lipstick formulas.

Price: Mamacita: $6 – Savage: $18

Overall: I honestly think this is one of the best dupes I’ve discovered. Not only is it amazing on the price difference front, but it’s also amazing because you can no longer buy Savage so the fact that there’s an identical dupe is pretty great! I love both equally, honestly I don’t even notice a difference anymore- so I’d definitely recommend either if you can get your hands on them!
