Anti-Haul: Winter 2017 Edition

Well, it is the most wonderful time of the year. All about spreading joy and happiness and celebrating life. Christmas is almost here, and after that comes the new year. It’s a time for positivity and looking forward to the future. What better time to sit here and bash on products? No? Just me?

With all the joy that comes with this season, also comes the extreme overspending. Whether you’re dabbling in all of the amazing offers or dropping some cash on gifts, this season is pretty hard on our bank accounts. Which is precisely why finding products you don’t want to buy can actually be exciting. We’ve all experienced that sigh of relief when a highly anticipated release is revealed and it is so NOT you. I’ve actually rarely been excited for releases over the past couple of months, so here are some of the top releases that I will definitely not be picking up!

Honestly, this might be a little controversial but I hate the Hadid sisters. Both of them. They just encapsulate everything I cannot stand. Your stereotypical supermodels that try so hard to be down to earth. Well, despite my personal bias, I was still intrigued to see what the Gigi Hadid x Maybelline collab was going to look like. Now, this packaging is gorgeous and I’m all for it but the love ends there. First of all, in what world does she think it’s okay to charge as much as she is for Maybelline products? Not okay. But mostly, I just think the collection itself is pitiful. That palette is just a joke and if I have to get one more YouTube ad of her selling me on the products….

Strangely, I actually love Kim. I know, so not expected. Most people would love Gigi and hate Kim. But, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Kardashians. I feel like I grew up with them. It is definitely a love hate relationship, and one that tends to mainly involve hate where KKW Beauty is concerned. I’m just not here for it. The Ultralight Beams are kind of confusing to me. At first I was excited. It did seem a little extra, but the glosses did seem to apply beautifully. But I just don’t think I’ll go for this one. It’s such a strange release, and just not worth the price point.

Oh, Charlotte. What are you doing?! I was shook when I heard a bigger Charlotte Tilbury Palette was coming out! Finally, something more than just quads. But this was a huge huge flop for me. The shades just do nothing for me. The Desk Eye section is gorgeous, but I’d hardly buy a palette for 3 shades. It’s just a very disappointing release.

Urban Decay killed the game with their Naked Heat palette. I live, die, breathe for it. It is a gorgeous palette with an amazing formula, but they definitely missed the mark with this one. I get the concept. A palette of all the metallic shimmers you could need. But it just left a lot to desire. Clearly they’re aware of how bad it is, considering that it’s already in the sale section on their website and Sephora.

Now, I don’t watch Patrick Starr. I don’t follow him or anything. But, I do love him. I appreciate everything he stands for and I’m all for it! I also completely understand how his collab with MAC is a dream for most people, and especially the universal loose powder. But, if you’ve been around for a while you’ll know that I’ve gone off loose powders for ages now. So, unfortunately I’m not excited for this!

Rihanna, get it girl. Fenty Beauty is everything and more. I personally didn’t like the foundation, but I really do still love the brand. Haha, it doesn’t make sense, I know. I just really support everything it stands for and everything she’s doing, and I do think everything looks gorgeous on everyone else- it just didn’t work for me. Then, the Galaxy collection happened. It was just a big mess, to me. Aaaand now this. I’m just not excited. The colours and the product formula just does nothing for me. So I’m definitely not going to be picking up the Mattemoiselle Lipsticks!

Look, I generally don’t know what Too Faced is doing recently. They killed it with the Peaches & Cream collection and then things got weird. Between the clover palette and this Gold Collection I’m just confused. I am not here for it. Too Faced is one of my favourite higher end brands, I just live for everything they do and lately they keep missing it. I’m not getting anything from this entire collection. The product I understand least is definitely the Chocolate Gold Bronzer/Highlighter hybrid kind of thing. Weird.

Let me know what you will NOT be buying this holiday season- I’d love to hate on them with you!

I 100% agree about that CT palette! I love her Instant look in a palette but this one is just a let-down…really uninspiring and nothing new. I like desk eye too but I think day eye especially (I think that’s what it’s called? The first trio) is like nothing. The shades overall just don’t do it for me unfortunately, but I do like the concept.

I am neutral about the Hadid sisters. I will say though, am kinda glad China banned Gigi from walking this year in the VS show (I can’t even remember the reason). Am not interested in the Maybelline collection at all. Overpriced, especially for some of the things that are already in Maybelline’s main collection – just different packaging!!

  2. This was so fun to read! I completely agree. Not into the Gigi Hadid collection. The packaging is beautiful but I heard the shadows were powdery and patchy. And what’s up with those Fenty lip colors??? Seriously?!

    Great post!

  3. To be honest I’m not really fan of Gigi, but I kinda like Bella, just for her simple girl next door beauty. But Maybelline is my least favorite makeup brand, I just don’t really enjoy their products. Also they charge so much just because Gigi’s name is on the product like please we all know that quality isn’t there haha. xx

  4. I completely agree with you on the Gigi Hadid collection! Also yeah I am very confused with what too faced is doing lately, it seems like their alternating between doing a childish collection and then a grown up one. Lovely anti haul!

Ok now I’m super curious how much the Gigi collection is! The palettes look pretty but I’m weary of Maybelline palettes because I bought that god awful The Blushed Nudes one a couple years ago and there was literally no pigment haha. So I never bought their shadows again.

I love the Kardashians as well. I think because I used to always watch their show when it first came out and I just thought they were so funny and even relatable. I haven’t been interested in anything from KKW beauty either, though.

That Urban Decay palette is very pretty and I love the colours included but for me, it’s the packaging that is terrible! I would want something that opens and closes, like a typical eyeshadow palette. I just think this is such a bad concept haha.
